Description
This suite of nine movements was composed by Finger for the 1701 Drury Lane production of
Alexander the Great
, which was an adaptation of Nathaniel Lee's 1675 play,
The Rival Queens
. After an overture in the French style come eight shorter movements, whose repeat patterns afford ample opportunity for ornamentation.
Edited by Brian Clark.
