  • Description

Performed on the birthday of Princess Hedwig Fridericke of Anhalt-Zerbst in November 1722, this was Fasch's first opportunity to impress his new employers. Having arrived at Michaelmas (late September) he had directed the Hofkapelle in cantatas by Telemann and Erlebach, so knew their strengths. Detailed research in the court records illuminates the context in which the work was first performed.

Edited by Brian Clark.
