This piece, which tells of the taking down of Christ's body from the cross and its laying in the tomb, has been sung mostly by counter-tenors, but Geist's first choice of voice was Tenore ò Bassetto - sounding an octave lower. He added "Semi-Canto" later. This version features the fine voice of Carlos Mena and the wonderful Ricercar Consort, long champions of this repertoire. It is something of a puzzle why Geist chose not to use the opening words of the piece as its title; our edition follows modern convention.
