Gottfried Finger

A coloured engraving of Gottfried (Godfrey) Finger
Born in 1660, Finger left his native Bohemia and found employment at the English court of James II,
then as a freelance opera composer. When he failed to win a composition competition,
he abandoned London, ending up at Mannheim, where he died in 1730.

These are suites from the English theatre at the beginning of the 18th century, in four instrumental parts.
Though possibly intended for strings, the music will work well with wind instruments.
