What the original performers made of this sonata is difficult to imagine - I have never encountered source material that is so faulty as the opening section of this excellent sonata. The set of parts actually includes two later violin parts for that section alone, correcting the many copying errors. This piece is far more imitative that the previous work and the violas are much more equal partners of the violins.
