Jesu, frommer Menschenherden, GWV1140/25

This fine cantata (setting a text by J. C. Lichtenberg) was composed for the 3rd day of Whitsun 1725. The opening chorale fantasy is followed by a Recitative and Aria pair for Bass (the latter featuring the viola d'amore). Then comes a Recitative and Aria pair for Soprano (this time the obbligato instrument is flute). After a short Recitative for Tenor, the opening Chorale is repeated with new words.
